New data-driven integration platform opens up business development opportunities for future-focused utilities

A new collaboration between Danish IT company KMD and Norwegian IT company Greenbird is delivering a completely new domain specific integration platform based on a loosely coupled integrated IT architecture for Danish multi-utility SK Forsyning. The flexibility granted by a loosely coupled IT architecture will support the existing core business of the Danish based utility and also open up new opportunities through the development of innovative digital services for customers. The IT architecture will also bring easier access to high-quality data, helping to support the green energy transition.

Leveraging data across systems is vital for utilities as they plan for the future, but often this is not supported by their underlying IT architecture. The platform developed specifically to the utility market is provided by KMD and Greenbird, and it is able to integrate the multiple systems required by SK Forsyning, enabling the utility to make significant progress in their ongoing digital transformation.

This new agreement gives SK Forsyning a tool that not only supports their core utility operations, but also provides an opportunity for the utility to adjust IT solutions and services to new areas.

By leveraging data to develop new digital services for customers to use in their daily lives, SK Forsyning is able to play a crucial role in sustainability and the energy transition.

"Our new agreement with KMD and Greenbird is an important step in SK Forsyning's digital strategy. It has meant a lot to us that this is a proven solution that focuses on high-quality data. This gives us a modern and flexible architecture, so we can concentrate more on the development of the business, knowing that operations are running smoothly. At the same time, it will give us a much better integration between our systems, helping us to get more from our data. The insights we gather from this data will be incredibly valuable to our organization and will also help support the green transition," says Jeanette Johansen, System Controller at SK Forsyning.

KMD has already worked closely with SK Forsyning on energy solutions and is looking forward to taking the cooperation to a new level:

"At KMD, we are extremely pleased that SK Forsyning as an ambitious, established, and professional utility company is looking ahead and identifying the need for a comprehensive IT architecture. This is an architecture that can help define future-oriented solutions for a digital utility service that focuses on high data quality and efficient data delivery. We also have high expectations for our collaboration with Greenbird and are already in discussions with several utilities that, in line with SK Forsyning, would like to lift their business into the data-driven age," says Jens Cornelius, Senior Business Director at KMD.

Greenbird is also looking forward to working with KMD and SK Forsyning to deliver a new software-as-a-service solution that gives utilities more flexibility and improved opportunities to scale:

"At Greenbird, we are excited about the opportunity to deliver our innovative and future-proof platform to SK Forsyning together with our partner KMD. SK Forsyning, KMD and Greenbird are a good match with complementary competencies and a common vision for a data-driven utility which is able to streamline operational processes and offer new innovative services to customers. This contract marks a milestone in the delivery of this vision and Greenbird's continued commitment to accelerating the energy transition," says Thorsten Heller, founder and CEO of Greenbird Integration Technology.

The implementation of the new integration platform and IT architecture at SK Forsyning is expected to go live in November 2021.
