Open Standards

Wall-to-wall IT solutions will soon be a thing of the past, where the future belongs to modular software architecture built on open standards. It creates a potential for innovation across solutions, organizations and suppliers

KMD Technology and Innovation Map - Open Standards

Horizon 1

Technologies that are known to both us and our customers. Technologies that have been thoroughly researched or are well on their way into our products, MVP's or innovation projects.

Graph API is an API that models the data in terms of nodes and edges (objects and relationships) and allows the client to interact with multiple nodes in a single request. In a graph API, the client formulates the call so data from all resources is pulled in at once. The client is also able to specify the fields it cares about, giving more control over the response schema.

NGSI-LD is an information model and API for publishing, querying and subscribing to context information. It is meant to facilitate the open exchange and sharing of structured information between different stakeholders. It is used across application domains such as Smart Cities, Smart Industry, Smart Agriculture, and more generally for the Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical Systems, Systems of systems and Digital Twins.

NSIS - National Standard for Identity Security Levels. The purpose of the standard is to create a common framework for trust in digital identities and digital identity services through a number of technical and organizational requirements. The requirements in NSIS cover the full life cycle of identities from creation to ongoing use and final decommissioning.

The OpenAPI Specification defines a standard, programming language-agnostic interface description for HTTP APIs, which allows both humans and computers to discover and understand the capabilities of a service without requiring access to source code, additional documentation, or inspection of network traffic.

Open data is data that is openly accessible, exploitable, editable and shared by anyone for any purpose, even commercially. Open data is licensed under an open license. One of the most important forms of open data is open government data (OGD), which is a form of open data created by ruling government institutions.

Open source is source code that is made freely available for possible modification and redistribution. Products include permission to use the source code, design documents, or content of the product. The open-source model is a decentralized software development model that encourages open collaboration.

Horizon 2

Technologies known to either us or our users, but not thoroughly tested. Strong candidates to participate in POC's to investigate technical possibilities and value potential for our customers.

Automation of Compliance Controls is the process of using technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to continually check systems for compliance. Compliance automation solutions replace manual processes and track all compliance procedures.

Differential privacy is a system for publicly sharing information about a dataset by describing the patterns of groups within the dataset while withholding information about individuals in the dataset. The idea behind differential privacy is that if the effect of making an arbitrary single substitution in the database is small enough, the query result cannot be used to infer much about any single individual, and therefore provides privacy.

Open banking standards enables customers and SMEs (Small and mid-size enterprises) to share their current account information securely with third party providers, promoting innovation and inclusion in a new financial ecosystem.

Smart data models are common data models that underpin a digital market of interoperable and replicable smart solutions in multiple sectors. A smart data model includes three elements: The schema, or technical representation of the model defining the technical data types and structure, the specification of a written document for human readers, and the examples of the payloads.

Horizon 3

Technologies that neither we nor our customers have had their hands on. Technologies that are so relatively new that their value has not yet materialized in the context of our customers and end users.

Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network. An asset can be tangible (a house, car, cash, land) or intangible (intellectual property, patents, copyrights, branding). Virtually anything of value can be tracked and traded on a blockchain network, reducing risk and cutting costs for all involved.

GAIA-X is a project reportedly working on the development of a federation of data infrastructure and service providers for Europe with the objective of ensuring a European digital sovereignty.
